shabby apple vintage dress giveaway

Win this Tiber dress – la dolce vita in a frock.
Caveat: I'm not a fashion blogger, but every once in a while. I get to "play" one on the Internet. Today's my lucky day – and yours, too. Read on...

Like many vegans, environmentalists and fashionistas, I adore vintage clothing. Besides being unique in this age of cookie cutter aesthetics, vintage tends to be easier on the planet, human rights, animals, and your wallet [unless you live in NYC, where vintage clothing is obscenely overpriced]. Unlike many contemporary outfits, which are too tent-like for my taste, vintage cuts tend to celebrate feminine curves, whether you are XXL or XXS.

Red. My favorite color. Lady-like fitted. My favorite silhouette. This frock is named Polly Hill.
But let's face it: sometimes shopping for vintage is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Finding a cute outfit that fits is challenging. Then when you do find that that special piece, Murphy's Law kicks in and your retro treasure is inevitably stained or needs repairs or tailoring. Or both.

shabby apple cut the cake
How luscious is this dress? It's called "Cut the Cake."
Shabby Apple to the rescue! Their gorgeous vintage style clothing is feminine and sophisticated – yet unique. Think clean lines, and classic shapes. Plus, they offer a bevy of colorful accessories to help you complete your individual look. I've highlighted just a few of my picks in the photos here. These dresses are timeless, office appropriate and still manage a bit of understated va-va-voom.

The kool kats at Shabby Apple have offered to give the black and white striped Tiber dress, pictured at the top of the post, away to one US lucky reader. All you have to do is leave a comment and tell us why you love vintage clothing. Brownie points for following Shabby Apple and/or me on Twitter. I'll announce the winner next week.

Sorry, but anyone who does not include a contact address, either via email or a blog, will be disqualified [since I need to be able to reach you]. Good luck!

whoa!!! What a crazy cool giveaway!! I used to wear tons of vintage clothing - i love the fun styles, low cost, and even the thrill of the hunt. I have some goodies in my closet that I've been wearing since high school!! I also have a few clothes from my grandpa and my grandma that I love to wear and remember them. <3

How did you know I was looking for a black and white dress? I love resale shops and vintage clothing. It's usually of better quality than current clothing and it's always unique. Plus, it's always fun to discover a gem when you least expect it..

What a gorgeous dress! I love the timelessness of vintage clothing. How they actually fit my shape without being clingy. I used to love going to vintage shops and searching for the hidden gems, not as easy to do now with a 20 month old :-) Vintage clothing also seems to be made of superior materials as they always seem to last longer and hold up better, which is something that I look for as a teacher on a budget.

I prefer the classic silhouette and timelessness of this kind of clothing to the trendy lines of today. I love the vintage look and think it flatters nearly every body, which is comforting since I hate the body image issues that arise for me when I go shopping :P I follow you on FB and Twitter and believe you already have my email addy to get in touch, but if not, it's bittyonekenis@gmail.com

My mother sews and has made clothes for me all my life. I like vintage clothes because the workmanship of these clothes often reminds me of the loving and attentive way my mother made clothes for me. She could mimic dresses I saw in catalogs and in magazines, but she would make them to my specifics (I don't want long sleeves, I want this another color). When I find a vintage piece, the seams, the attention, the care of the construction always remind me of how my mother made clothes for me.

I love vintage clothing because I always love finding something unique that I won't see everyone wear. I also appreciate the quality - a lot of my vintage finds have lasted me since high school, which I can't say about the clothes that I've purchased from certain big box stores. Thanks for the giveaway! I love Shabby Apple.

Looking timeless and unique while staying frugal is my reason for loving vintage. When you wear a vintage piece, it makes you feel as if you are in the original era of construction and gives you a sexy confidence that comes from the garment fit. Nothing says 'classy' as vintage does.

I love finding new uses for old items. Plus, I love the history of older items and we all know that fashions always come back around!

I think it's gorgeous, and would be flattering on ANY woman (but especially me... :) ). It's classy and gorgeous, and could be dressed up or down - vintage clothing is so versatile that way!

I love a vintage look for one of the reasons you mentioned--it celebrates the feminine shape and can be flattering in any size. I think too often these days clothing that is considered "feminine" is just really revealing and doesn't actually look good on normal-sized women.

I love vintage clothing because it is a way for us to time travel. I can walk around feeling like Myrna Loy or Mia Farrow or whomever just by shopping by their era. Fashion has such a powerful connection to history!

Plus, I just like to look pretty. :)

What an amazing giveaway! I love, love Shabby Apple mostly because I am based in NYC and vintage clothing is, as you said, ridiculously overpriced. I'm always looking to their blog for inspiration and I can't wait to own some of their amazing dresses!

I am a vintage clothes fan because I find them feminine and classic and still unquie and modest all at the same time. I find myself mending and patching a lot though because vintage generally also means worn and loved!! What a cool company. I'd never heard of them before. Thanks!

Vintage is timeless and modest while still being very sexy. This is empowering, because it gives women control and projects respect and admiration. It also pulls style together, unlike the latest craze that is here and gone tomorrow.
