Savory Harvest Crumble with Figs, Squash and Onion |
Clementine-Sweet Potato Halwah |
Seitan with Quince, Apple and Onion The Tofurky verdict... I had originally intended to take the prepared Tofurky Feast to my sister's place for our post-Christmas dinner; I wanted my very large, very omnivorous family to share their thoughts. Unfortunately, owing to the snowstorm that blanketed the Philadelphia region on December 26, I ended up feasting on the Tofurky dinner solo. Before I give my verdict, full disclosure: I never really had a "meat tooth," even when I was not a vegetarian. So, as a veg, not surprisingly, I'm not into fake meats... This said, if you like the taste of turkey, then you will undoubtedly love Tofurky. The texture is eeerily similar to that of turkey, and the savory stuffing enhanced and heightened the flavor. I especially enjoyed sandwiches I made with the leftovers. The Tofurky Jerky "wishbone" was a fun add-on for kids. While the Tofurky itself was tasty, I'm sorry to report that I thought the dumplings were, well...inedible. And unfortunately, the gravy was not much better. For this reason, I thought the Tofurky Feast was a bit overpriced. On the upside, it's wonderful that alternative meals like these exist. I'm sure they will keep getting better and better. |

I just saw that you posted that harvest crumble! I really want to make that. I'd take that any day over the Tofurkey roast (which, granted, I've never had).
I agree with you, everything that comes with the tofurkey besides the actual "bird" is nasty. Especially the gravy.
I personally think that Tofurky tastes horrific.the whole package is inedible.
I buy the Tofurky dinner. It just comes with the roast and gravy. It's much cheaper at TJ's. I made my own marinade of oj, soy sauce and white wine and it was really good roasted with veggies.
I liked the gravy but I agree with you on the dumplings!!
I think the way it looks scares me. I've tried a lot of fake 'meats' that are meant for roasts in the UK and not been impressed with any of them!x
I can't wait for your new cookbook!
The picture of the harvest crumble is amazing, can't wait to see that in your book! I want to make that for sure!

Looks Delish! I'll be looking for your book!
I love the crumble with figs...Its so hard to stay away from sweets...and that looks so good.
ohh, totally was eyeing that harvest crumble! And having such a yummy time testing your recipes- definitely will be posting them soon! I've never had tofurky dinner- I usually go with Field Roast Celebration Roast & Wholes Foods vegan Mushroom gravy!
Yeah, to Tofuky is okay but I personally would rather just have "real" food. It's a good "easy" thing for non-vegans to buy for vegans though!
